La sentence est tomb\u00e9e apr\u00e8s quelque cinq heures d\u2019audience au tribunal f\u00e9d\u00e9ral de Brooklyn, au cours de laquelle 15 victimes<\/strong> ont t\u00e9moign\u00e9 contre cet homme de 60 ans, dont une femme identifi\u00e9e uniquement comme \u00ab Camila \u00bb qui a indiqu\u00e9 avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 contrainte \u00e0 des<\/strong> relations sexuelles avec Keith Raniere d\u00e8s l\u2019\u00e2ge de 15 ans<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u00ab J\u2019\u00e9tais une enfant [\u2026], il m\u2019a vol\u00e9 ma jeunesse \u00bb<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Camila, aujourd\u2019hui \u00e2g\u00e9e de 30 ans.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Il m\u2019a manipul\u00e9e pour son propre plaisir \u00bb, a-t-elle ajout\u00e9.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Il attendait de moi que je sois disponible sexuellement tout le temps \u00bb.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Son t\u00e9moignage a \u00e9t\u00e9 la surprise de cette audience : elle n\u2019\u00e9tait pas au proc\u00e8s de juin 2019, \u00e0 l\u2019issue duquel Keith Raniere avait \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9clar\u00e9 coupable des sept chefs d\u2019inculpation retenus contre lui \u2014 dont exploitation sexuelle d\u2019une adolescente de 15 ans, extorsion et association de malfaiteurs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Les autres victimes pr\u00e9sentes mardi l\u2019ont d\u00e9crit comme un \u00ab pr\u00e9dateur \u00bb, \u00ab un monstre \u00bb, \u00ab un menteur sadique et pathologique \u00bb.<\/p>\n

Il avait, selon elles, deux facettes, d\u2019un c\u00f4t\u00e9 meneur et s\u00e9ducteur, de l\u2019autre manipulateur.<\/p>\n

Son avocat, Marc Agnifilo<\/strong>, a essay\u00e9 de plaider que les victimes avaient pu \u00e9voluer dans leur fa\u00e7on de voir leurs relations avec le gourou.<\/p>\n

\u00ab C\u2019est clair qu\u2019il a profit\u00e9 des gens sexuellement \u00bb, a r\u00e9torqu\u00e9 le juge Nicholas Garaufis.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

<\/h3>\n

Un gourou fier de l\u2019\u0153uvre de sa vie<\/strong><\/h3>\n

L\u2019audience de mardi marque la fin du parcours d\u2019un homme au pouvoir de persuasion hors du commun, toujours r\u00e9v\u00e9r\u00e9 par des dizaines de personnes malgr\u00e9 les r\u00e9v\u00e9lations le concernant.<\/p>\n

Keith Raniere<\/strong> avait mont\u00e9, en 1998, une organisation bas\u00e9e \u00e0 Albany dans l\u2019\u00c9tat de New York, baptis\u00e9e Nxivm (prononcer Nexium)<\/strong>, qui dispensait des formations de d\u00e9veloppement personnel \u00e0 des prix exorbitants.<\/p>\n

D\u00e8s le d\u00e9but, ce personnage charismatique avait entretenu un cercle de 15 \u00e0 20 femmes sous influence, avec lesquelles il avait des relations sexuelles \u00e0 son gr\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Dans une lettre pr\u00e9alable au prononc\u00e9 de sa peine, Keith Raniere<\/strong> clamait son innocence et se disait \u00ab fier de l\u2019\u0153uvre de sa vie \u00bb.<\/p>\n

Il avait refus\u00e9 d\u2019exprimer des regrets et affirm\u00e9 n\u2019avoir \u00ab jamais fait intentionnellement de mal \u00e0 quiconque \u00bb.<\/p>\n

Il affirmait aussi que toutes les relations sexuelles avec des membres de la secte \u00e9taient consenties.<\/p>\n

Mardi, apr\u00e8s avoir entendu les t\u00e9moignages des victimes, il a laiss\u00e9 entendre qu\u2019elles mentaient, tout en disant regretter \u00ab la douleur, la col\u00e8re \u00bb qu\u2019elles avaient exprim\u00e9es.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Je ne voulais pas causer cette douleur \u00bb, mais \u00ab je n\u2019ai pas de remords pour les chefs d\u2019inculpation, ils ne sont pas justes \u00bb, a-t-il ajout\u00e9.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Le procureur f\u00e9d\u00e9ral avait demand\u00e9 la prison \u00e0 perp\u00e9tuit\u00e9, affirmant qu\u2019au-del\u00e0 de la gravit\u00e9 des faits, il \u00ab ne (montrait) aucune empathie pour ses victimes \u00bb et \u00ab continuerait \u00e0 commettre des crimes s\u2019il \u00e9tait lib\u00e9r\u00e9 \u00bb.<\/p>\n

La d\u00e9fense esp\u00e9rait elle une peine limit\u00e9e \u00e0 15 ans.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00ab Les 120 ans impos\u00e9s sont \u00e0 la mesure des horribles crimes qu\u2019il a commis \u00bb, a indiqu\u00e9 le procureur Seth DuCharme<\/strong> apr\u00e8s l\u2019audience.<\/p>\n

\u00ab J\u2019esp\u00e8re que la sentence permettra aux victimes et leur famille de tourner la page \u00bb.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Des femmes marqu\u00e9es \u00e0 vie<\/strong><\/h3>\n

En 2015, M. Raniere avait cr\u00e9\u00e9 une seconde organisation parall\u00e8le pyramidale, baptis\u00e9e DOS<\/strong>, qui comprenait des \u00ab esclaves \u00bb et des \u00ab ma\u00eetres \u00bb.<\/p>\n

Les \u00ab esclaves \u00bb, toutes des femmes, \u00e9taient notamment oblig\u00e9es d\u2019avoir des rapports sexuels \u00e0 la discr\u00e9tion du \u00ab Grandmaster \u00bb, un autre de ses surnoms.<\/p>\n

Certaines devaient subir un \u00ab marquage \u00bb, qui consistait \u00e0 tracer sur la peau des lettres, souvent les initiales de Keith Raniere, \u00e0 l\u2019aide d\u2019un stylo \u00e0 caut\u00e9riser, qui br\u00fblait les chairs.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Les cinq co-accus\u00e9es de Keith Raniere<\/strong> ont, l\u2019une apr\u00e8s l\u2019autre, plaid\u00e9 coupable et \u00e9vit\u00e9 le proc\u00e8s.<\/p>\n

Avant Raniere<\/strong> mardi, Clare Bronfman<\/strong>, h\u00e9riti\u00e8re de l\u2019empire canadien des spiritueux Seagram<\/strong> et grande argenti\u00e8re de Nxivm<\/strong> avec sa s\u0153ur Sara, avait \u00e9t\u00e9 condamn\u00e9e fin septembre \u00e0 plus de six ans de prison.<\/p>\n

Les autres, dont l\u2019actrice Allison Mack et la cofondatrice de Nxivm Nancy Salzman, attendent encore de conna\u00eetre leur peine.<\/strong><\/p>\n
