Créteil | A man taken into custody for attempted kidnapping of minors

Two children were victims of an attempted kidnapping Monday evening in Val-de-Marne. They were approached by a 60-year-old man who tried to get them into his car.

A 60-year-old man was arrested and taken into police custody Monday evening in Créteil (Val-de-Marne), the Créteil public prosecutor's office told Le Figaro, confirming information from Europe 1.

He is suspected of having tried to kidnap two children aged around ten, by trying to get them into his van.

The two children were approached by the man late Monday afternoon.

The events took place in front of the Albert Camus school group in the city around 7:20 p.m., the father of one of the children told Le Parisien.

They were returning from school when they came across the van, one of the young people recognizing the «mister from last Wednesday».

It was then that the sixty-year-old allegedly threatened them, trying to get them into the vehicle.

But after entering the van, the children manage to escape and go straight back to tell their parents.

After listening to the tribulations of their children, the parents alert the neighborhood.

It then turns out that another child was the victim of an exactly similar kidnapping attempt a few days earlier.

They decide to contact the police.

The children having managed to note the license plate number of the van before fleeing, the man was quickly spotted by the anti-crime squad.

Arrested an hour after the events, the sixty-year-old was taken into police custody at 8 p.m.

Currently being interviewed by investigators, he is only known to the courts for driving without a license, the prosecution said.

The Créteil police station was seized of the investigation.
